About Statement
Mara Voss, b. 1987, Copenhagen

I photograph subtraction. A tower the fog is busy erasing, a person reduced to a mark on a landscape, an object and the one shadow it is allowed. Each series begins by asking what can be removed from the frame before the picture stops being true.

The work is made slowly, on film, in weather most people wait out. Meridian records brutalist architecture at the moment it loses its edges. Ballast follows single figures through landscapes that outnumber them. Still Air is the same discipline brought indoors — hard light, one object, nothing else.
